Instagram To Let You Disable Comments (How To)

Updated 12/30/2016

Instagram announced a new feature, which is currently being rolled out, that will allow you to disable comments on your posts.

Kylie Jenner just announced, in a Facebook status, that she will disable comments on her Instagram posts:

“Our goal is to make Instagram a friendly, fun and, most importantly, safe place for self-expression,” Nicky Jackson Colaco, Instagram’s head of public policy, told The Washington Post. “We have slowly begun to offer accounts with high volume comment threads the option to moderate their comment experience. As we learn, we look forward to improving the comment experience for our broader community.”

The feature, which is currently only available for businesses and celebrities, was used by Taylor Swift last week when she was being harassed by Kim Kardashian fans following their “Famous” feud. Kardashian’s fans apparently flooded Swift’s comment section with the snake emoji implying she was a fake and a liar. However, soon after, those emoji had all disappeared — inexplicably.

Comment filtering will roll out to high-profile accounts first in coming weeks, but there’s no exact date as to when it’ll be available to everyone. Users will be able to turn off comments on a post-by-post basis.

Update

Anyone can disable comments now! It’s done on a per-post basis. As soon as you upload an image to Instagram, right before you publish it, it will ask you if you want to turn comments on or off.

Just click “off” and hit publish. Then the image or video will be uploaded and no one will be able to comment on it!
